Every two years there is one focal point in the image sector – Photokina. Photokina brings together the industry, trade, professional users and end consumers with a passion for photography. This is also the time when new products are being announced. The latest rumour from the Nikon camp is the announcement of a new full frame DSLR positioned in between the D610 and D810. If this is the case, the rumoured FF DSLR could finally be the Nikon D700 replacement that a lot of people are waiting for. It looks like it will be called Nikon D750?

Many D700 users have yet to find a suitable replacement despite of Nikon introducing two awesome FF cameras D610 and D810. Back in the days, the D700 is essentially a D3 housed in a smaller body. It has the same build quality, same AF system, same sensor, but a much more attractive price tag. You can be sure the D700 has won over many Nikon users and even Canon users.  Since then, there hasn’t been a camera that is of an equivalent standard. The Nikon D610 is an entry level FF DSLR that has a good 24MP sensor, but has a stripped down 39 AF system, 1/4000s maximum shutter speed and lower build quality. While the Nikon D810 has the superior specs as the Nikon D4s but it has adopted an unfriendly 36MP sensor and a huge price tag. To many users, unless you are a professional studio or landscape photographer, there isn’t a need to have a 36MP sensor and pay for the huge price tag of the D810.

The rumoured Nikon D700 replacement (Nikon D750) which has a price tag in between the D610 and D810 should stand about $2500 USD. Nikon D700 was priced at $3000 when it first came out and quickly dropped to $2400 after 4 months. If the Nikon D700 replacement rumour is true, you could very well see  a new FF DSLR that has the same build quality, AF system as the D810 but with either a D610 (24MP) or D4 (16MP) sensor. The FPS may also be boosted to 7-8fps similar to the D700. To differentiate from the D810, it might have a low pass filter.
