For Portraits, without a doubt my favourite lenses are the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. Check out the NEW Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII.
The Nikon 105mm f/2.8 is also known to be a good portrait lens, however I definitely pick the above two over the Nikon 105mm f/2.8.
