Professional photographers shooting under extreme condition rely heavily on their pro cameras and lenses being weather sealed. This usually means the cameras and lenses are protected against  water and dust which allows shooting in extreme locations. Now days, even the middle class DSLR camera body such as the D7000 is weather sealed. <\/p>\n

Is weather seal that much important? Is it an essential feature when you decide on buying a camera? Do I need it if I am not planning to shoot under the rain?<\/p>\n

Normally you can probably avoid shooting under the rain because it is kind of awkward and messy. But what about when you want to photograph snow?<\/p>\n

We had quite a bit of snow falling a few weeks back which is usual, because we rarely get to experience snow in this city. But with this rare occasion we got to experience two days of snow falling and this is the time when you wish your camera is weather sealed.<\/p>\n

The Nikon D700 which I used to shoot during this rare snow fall occasion \u2013 went under a sub zero condition and weather seal test.<\/p>\n

The Nikon D700 was all wet after some snow fall shooting.<\/p>\n

We had quite a bit of snow falling, enough to pile up two fairly large snowmen.<\/p>\n

and here are some shots taken with Grace during this rare snow falling occasion in Wellington, New Zealand. Thanks to the pro body weather seal, I could keeping shooting in the snow until my fingers went numb. <\/p>\n
